Nowadays, smart assistants can be found almost everywhere - in mobile phones, homes, cars. They are called Siri, Alexa, Cortana, Google Assistant, Bixby & Co. Their intention is to act as a personal assistant and make our lives easier: We tell them what we want, and they do it. Well, at least they should. But sometimes, or as some would say most of the time, it just doesn't work. Either they don't understand us or they do understand us but misinterpret or give the wrong answers to our questions.

We recently held a Webinar on why this is happening, and what the challenges for modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are. Our Director of Product Management and Natural Language Processing (NLP) expert Christian Schömmer, delivered fascinating insights on how the different modules need to interweave to create a digital assistant that works perfectly. This blog post is a summary of the key talking points of the webinar.

How smart are Smart Assistants? Have you ever tried to get an answer from Siri, Alexa, Cortana & Co. on more sophisticated questions like "What should I do tonight?", "Do you have any feedback on that article for me?" or "When should the next board meeting happen?". If you did, you might have realized that the answers seem not very smart - you might even go as far as say a bit dumb.

Digital Assistants have been around for quite a while now, but still many people tend to be disappointed by the results when using them in their daily life. Without a doubt, Smart Assistants try their best to help, but often they misunderstand, misinterpret and malfunction. Different modules need to interweave to create a digital assistant that works perfectly. For a Smart Assistant to act on requests that are all given in a natural language, a couple of things need to happen.

With the passage of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the identification of personal data has gained a lot of attention in 2018. More and more companies struggle with finding PII manually when it comes to Discovery and Data Breach Investigations – it is just too inaccurate, ineffective and time consuming. But there is light on the horizon: solutions like ayfie Inspector and ayfie Supervisor can support and automate these processes. We recently held a webinar on the topic “Automating the identification of PII”. This blogpost summarizes the key takeaways of the webinar.

We have a new webinar coming up on October 11 surrounding the ever so popular topic of PII: "Automating the Identification of Personal Data for Information Governance (IG) and Early Case Assessment (ECA)."

This webinar will be a summary of our speaking slot at the upcoming Relativity Fest™. We want to make our content accessible for everyone who cannot attend the event itself or does not have time to listen to the talk of our colleague Paul Gettmann (Director of Product Management).

GDPR - the General Data Protection Regulation - has been a massive topic of conversation and controversy before going into effect on the 25th of May. The fact is that any company dealing with information of EU citizens must comply with the rules of protection of individual's data. Still, many firms continue to struggle with understanding the guidelines and making sure that they are 100% compliant. It is a challenge that involves a fair amount of budget and resources to be solved. But do not worry there is light at the end of the tunnel: Software companies have implemented GDPR specific products that offer support for streamlining processes around GDPR requests.

Last week we conducted a webinar around the topic of GDPR and demonstrated how reports about Personal Identifiable Information (PII) could be retrieved in structured and unstructured data. This blog post highlights the main talking points of this webinar.
